ASE ranked No. 1 supplier in FSA’s 2002 Wafer and Packaging Demand Survey

Santa Clara, California, March 11, 2002 – Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. (NYSE: ASX), one of the world’s largest semiconductor packaging and testing companies and ASE Test Limited (NASDAQ: ASTSF), the world’s largest semiconductor testing company, today announced that the survey results published by the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) indicated that the company was voted the leading service provider.

The FSA, a premier semiconductor trade association, published the results of its eighth annual Wafer and Packaging Demand Survey on March 6, 2002. The survey was conducted in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. Survey participants included 131 fabless companies and 14 integrated device manufacturers (IDMs).

Respondents were asked to indicate their top four post-foundry suppliers in 2001 for each task, including; probe supplier, assembly supplier, test supplier and burn-in supplier. In all four catego ries, ASE emerged as the key supplier. ISE Labs, a wholly owned subsidiary of ASE Test Limited and the largest semiconductor testing service provider in Silicon Valley, was ranked sixth in probe and second in burn-in.

“This is the second consecutive year that we have been placed as the leading supplier in the FSA survey, ” said Dr. Tien Wu, president of ASE Americas and Europe. “ASE is pleased to have the continued vote of confidence from our customers. We also believe that the fabless model will continue to lead the way for industry growth and, in addition, associations such as the FSA will help to promote this growth.”

The survey is available to FSA members or other interested parties through the organization’s web site at www.fsasurvey.com.
