ASE Receives Raytheon Supplier Scorecard Award

TAIPEI, Taiwan, July 23, 2003 – Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Incorporated (ASE, TAIEX: 2311, NYSE: ASX), one of the world’s largest semiconductor packaging and testing companies, announced today that Raytheon Systems Limited, located in Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland, has honoured ASE as their top supplier for service and distribution in their recent quarterly Supplier Scorecard awards.

The Scorecard award was devised by Raytheon in 2002 as a means of promoting and sharing go od practices across their ‘preferred supplier’ list for Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) suppliers. With almost 1, 600 suppliers, Raytheon decided that they needed to simplify the process of selecting suppliers in order to save time and money, and operate more efficiently.

“The Scorecard helps us to standardise the suppliers we use across the two Raytheon UK sites which can both increase efficiency and save money, ” commented Jim Sneddon, Commodity Manager, Raytheon. “Using the Scorecard, suppliers are evaluated by every section of our business and given a mark on specific criteria such as delivery, cost, communication and technical support. By scoring our suppliers against this pre-defined set of criteria using very specific and measurable go als, we are able to identify the best performers and reward them with more work from us in the future, ” he added.

ASE has had a long business relationship with Raytheon Systems Limited. Its facilities in Penang, Malaysia and Kaohsiung, Taiwan have provided IC packaging services for Raytheon’s electronic systems in the commercial and defence sectors, for more than 10 years.

“Raytheon Systems Limited’s recognition of ASE is indeed an honour for our team. The award is the result of our persistence in providing leading-edge products and the highest quality customer service, to enable the success of our customers, ” said Dr Tien Wu, President of ASE Americas/Europe and Japan. “Customer awards such as Raytheon’s indicate that we are moving along the right direction with the customer and further encourage us to strive for excellence in our technology and service, ” he added.
