ASE Kaohsiung receives ISO 46001 Certification for Water Efficiency Management

Kaohsiung, Taiwan, November 12, 2021 – Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. (ASE) announced today that the ASE Kaohsiung facility has successfully attained the ISO 46001 certification. The ISO46001 is a global standard that guides organizations in establishing, implementing and maintaining a water efficiency management system. The development of a systematic approach to water resource management has enabled ASE to strengthen its policies and achieve improvements in water efficiency.

The ISO 46001 certificate was presented to ASE by SGS, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification, at the 7th ASE Conference on Environmental Technology Research and Development. The achievement demonstrates pivotal recognition of ASE’s outstanding performance in water management. Besides showcasing green technology projects, the conference also highlighted industry-academia collaboration on water recycling. The close collaboration with universities have resulted in the development of methodologies that help ASE enhance water recycling and reuse, to reduce environmental impact and realize the company’s full potential as an innovative green enterprise.

ASE Kaohsiung, the flagship manufacturing operation of the company, has been actively implementing sustainable management of water resources with specific actions that uphold the concepts of ‘resource recycling’, ‘energy saving’, ‘carbon reduction’, and ‘ecology preservation’. These actions are fully aligned with the United Nations SDGs* for achieving a sustainable economy and environment. The incorporation of ISO 46001 standards provide guidance to the company in the inspection and evaluation of major risks, and improvement of infrastructure related to water efficiency management that optimize utilization and demand.

ASE operates one of the largest water recycling facility within its Kaohsiung campus, supplying approximately two-thirds of the water consumed across the entire manufacturing facility. The water recycling facility is part of ASE’s total water strategy to build resilience, mitigate water crisis  and ensure business continuity.

As the world continues to grapple with the impact of the pandemic, rapid developments in smart technology and digital transformation have greatly elevated the role of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.  While advanced packaging technologies and green innovation remain key focuses at ASE, the company will capitalize on its sustainability strategies to achieve business growth and reduce its carbon footprint.
