Mama Chang – Pioneer of Her Generation

Madam Chang-Yao Hung-Yin, founder of the The Hung Ching Group and The ASE Group, and beloved mother of Chairman Jason Chang and Vice Chairman Richard Chang passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the age of 95.

Madam Chang was born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China. As a young woman, she was an avid learner who attended the Wenzhou Provincial Middle School and later pursued her higher education at the Jiangxi Medical College.

Madam Chang was married in 1942 and together with the Senior Mr Chang, became successful business owners. However, their business suffered during the tumultuous political upheaval in Mainland China. Madam Chang’s family relocated to Taiwan and started their business again from scratch. In the early years, Madam Chang went into real estate investments and established Hung Ching Group. Through sheer tenacity, ingenuity and hard work, her company’s business gradually flourished. In the 1980s, she had the foresight to expand further into the high-tech sector, resulting in the creation of ASE.

To many ASE and Hung Ching employees, she was affectionately known as ‘Mama Chang’ for her charismatic and compassionate leadership. Madam Chang was a devout Buddhist and had spent much of her time serving the community through her charitable work. Through the years, her tireless contributions have benefited many charities, and helped the poor and disadvantaged.

In honor of Mama Chang’s legacy, the Chang family is donating NTD300 million that will provide scholarships and fund an educational platform for nurturing today’s young students who would, in turn, help to create a better and caring future.

Those who would like to pay their last respects can do so from today, at the:
Fo Guang Shan Taipei Vihara (12th Floor)
No. 327, Songlong Rd, Xinyi District,
Taipei City, Taiwan 110.
A funeral service would be held on December 17, 2016 at 10.30 am.
