In ESG, social responsibility includes multiple goals, of which community relation is key.
The community has played an important role in supporting ASE’s growth. With the spirit of “taking from the society and giving back to the community”, we devote ourselves to charitable activities, educational programs and social work. As part of our commitment, ASE has established a NT$3 billion, 30-year fund dedicated to programs related to the protection of Taiwan’s environment.

Towards a Sharing Community
Campus LED Installation Project
The Campus LED Installation Project is a long-term community project that ASE has committed to. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the myopia rate amongst children aged 6 to 15 years old children was as high as 85%. By assisting elementary and junior high schools in rural areas and communities surrounding ASE facilities to replace fluorescent tubes with LED lights, the project has helped to protect the eyesight of schoolchildren. In Kaohsiung and Nantou, we have installed 160,000 LED tube lights in 155 schools to date. LED lighting is also energy-saving and thus helps in the reduction of carbon emissions.
Community Building with Green Energy
Shanlin Junior High School Smart Microgrid Installation Project
ASE donated NT$10.5 million to implement a microgrid system at the Shanlin Junior High School in Kaohsiung.
The grid is designed to use 100% renewable energy including 303 solar panels totaling 100kWp, generating 350~400 kWh per day. The electricity is stored in 18 sets of energy storage systems, with a total storage capacity of 135 kWh. The school has also incorporated environmental topics including renewable energy and smart grids into the curriculum that will help students to expand their horizons and to explore the connection between daily life and sustainable development.
Industry-Academia Research and Talent Cultivation
In order to maintain our leading position in the packaging and testing industry, we continue to invest in technology innovation and talent cultivation to strengthen our long-term competitiveness.
Since 2012, ASE Kaohsiung has established various semiconductor packaging research and development projects with reputable universities. Since 2015, we began the development of smart factories and applied AI to improve our manufacturing operations. Our close collaboration with universities provide students the opportunity to have a greater understanding of the industry environment and gain exposure for future job opportunities. ASE will continue its focus on industry-academia research for future industry developments and accelerate towards a smart industry.
Environmental Protection
Marine Protection
Water is an indispensable natural resource in sustainable development and the basic need for human survival. Beginning in 2017, ASE has donated material and equipment to support the rivers in Taoyuan City. We also pay extra attention to marine protection and participate actively in beach cleaning activities. In 2019, we sponsored the establishment of the first “environmental protection diving team” in Taoyuan City to help clean up underwater waste. In 2021, we sponsored NT$12 million, and has plans to remove 500 metric tons of coastal and marine debris over three years. In 2022, we selected Longdong (dragon’s cave), Green Island and Liuqiu to kick off the 10-year coastal and marine environment maintenance work around Taiwan. In 2023, we conducted 48 ocean cleanups and 36 beach cleanups, involving almost 1,945 participants and removing a total of 3.97 tons of marine and coastal litter.
Forest Adoption and Afforestation Project
60% of the island of Taiwan is covered by forests. However, the fragile geology as well as the impact of human development and climate change have led to more landslides and land degradation over the years. ASE has supported greening and afforestation throughout Taiwan including working with the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park for the surrounding regions in the south. As of 2024, 69.25 hectares of forest have been adopted, and about 125,753 trees have been planted and regularly maintained with cumulated investment NTD$24.09 million.The reforestation project includes planting Taiwanese native species, endangered species, and air-purifying tree species, helping to cumulate carbon sink by 3,194 tCO₂e.
