ASE Malaysia expands facility for Image Sensor chip production

Penang, Malaysia. December 10, 2021. Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc., announced that its Malaysia facility (ASEM) has expanded its Class 10/100 cleanroom facility at its Bayan Lepas, Penang location. The expansion was driven by a strong demand for image sensor products over the past two years. With this additional capacity, ASEM is poised to grow its business with its key customers, especially onsemi.

Since 2014, ASEM has invested over US$52 million to develop the technologies and capacity for image sensors. To date, the company has shipped more than 200 million units of image sensors.

On November 26, ASEM organized a simple Covid-safe ceremony to mark the occasion at the cleanroom facility.

About Image Sensors

Image sensors are key components for a variety of applications. With the rise in sophisticated safety and visual features in automotive applications, the number of chips required in vehicles proportionally increases. This trend is driving the exponential demand for image sensor chips. To cater to the ultra clean manufacturing environment for these chips, manufacturing floors must meet class 10/100 cleanroom standards to prevent contamination to the chips.
