Industry Partnership
In recent years, ASE has earned global recognition for its exemplary leadership in Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) practices, showcasing notable achievements in championing a sustainable environment and fostering a vibrant community. However, it is imperative to note that the foundation for these achievements was established long ago, with the company assuming a pivotal role in strategically leveraging its influence throughout the semiconductor supply chain.
SEMI is a leading global industry association representing the electronics and design supply chain, with over 2,500 members. As a member for over 3 decades, ASE has proactively stepped up its involvement to lead and drive impactful agendas and direct the industry towards achieving common goals.
ASE has been a SEMI member since 1986, and has undertaken many important roles on various SEMI committees*

Global Talent Program
ASE played a pivotal role in the development of the global talent program, supporting key initiatives to expand and diversify the talent pool in response to the significant workforce deficits. In Taiwan, ASE has taken the leadership to advocate, promote and convince government institutions to align and support SEMI’s policies for local talent development. A significant milestone in the course of events was the establishment of the Semiconductor Academy in Taiwan, to enhance economic competitiveness and nurture the next generation of semiconductor talents. ASE and SEMI’s proactive advocacy have wielded direct influence over the strategic directions of esteemed universities such as National Cheng Kung University and National Sun Yat-sen University to incorporate semiconductor courses into the universities’ curriculum.
Global ESG
ASE is a founding member of the SEMI Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC), established in November 2022. The SCC is the first global consortium formed by companies across the semiconductor value chain to accelerate the ecosystem’s reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Despite commendable strides in emission reduction in the industry, there is untapped potential for enhanced collaboration to collectively tackle challenges pervasive throughout our value chain. ASE remains steadfast in its conviction that active contribution and support for the goals of SCC can steer the semiconductor industry towards progressive climate actions.
ASE currently sits on the bylaws committee, an SCC team defining the governance, roles and rules of its members and problem-solving teams.

SEMI Semiconductor Climate Consortium - Energy Collaborative
In an effort to reduce global semiconductor ecosystem carbon emissions, SEMI and the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) created the Energy Collaborative (EC) initiative in November 2023. The primary objective is to understand and eliminate obstacles hindering the adoption of low-carbon energy sources in the Asia-Pacific region. As a sponsoring partner, ASE assumes a pivotal role in anchoring the collective efforts of the EC through participation in roundtable discussions and fact-finding sessions.

SEMI Semiconductor Sustainability Initiative - Circularity Working Group
The mission of the Sustainability Initiative platform is to accelerate climate solutions and the reduction of the industry’s carbon footprint through collaborations, effective communications, alignments, and establishment of standards. The initiative includes several specialized working groups with distinct charters led by major industry players, to devise solutions that address the diverse challenges of today’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) landscape.
ASE co-leads the Circularity (Water and Waste) working group established in August 2022. The primary objective of this initiative was to foster collaboration at an industry level by creating a marketplace of best practices and unresolved issues in water and waste management. Members of the Circularity working group consist of representatives from front-end equipment suppliers, foundries, OSATs, and water and waste solution providers. The Circularity working group periodically initiates outreach to government organizations, academic institutions, and standards organizations to explore resources and collaborative opportunities that can enhance our members’ ESG developments. In line with the mission of the sustainability initiative, the Circularity working group serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, benchmarking, and the establishment of standards to expedite the conservation of water and reduction of waste by the semiconductor value chain.
SEMI Foundation - Board of Trustees
The SEMI Foundation was established to provide support for workforce development, promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within the semiconductor industry, to address substantial workforce deficits. ASE was elected as a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees in November 2022. As a member of the board, ASE assumes a pivotal role in enhancing efforts towards raising awareness, advocacy, securing funding and garnering industry-wide support for workplace focused on DEI, STEM programs, and connecting employers, academic and training institutions, government and communities to address workforce challenges and promote economic equity in the semiconductor sector.
A recent noteworthy achievement of the Foundation was the successful launch of the 2023 Women in Semiconductor program, aimed at promoting and strengthening women in management and leadership roles. The program underscores the importance of fostering connections and mentorships, while addressing and overcoming unconscious biases. The overarching goal is to create a culture of belonging, empowering women to thrive and excel in the dynamic landscape of the semiconductor industry.
Over the years, while women have made great strides across various aspects of social and economic life, it is imperative to recognize that more efforts are needed. The gender gap in the traditionally male-dominated technology industry underscores the urgency to enhance developments to bridge this divide and augmenting female representation. To that end, ASE’s active engagement in the SEMI Foundation not only allows for substantial contribution to global endeavors, but also serves as an inspiration for action throughout the value chain, towards a highly resilient and transformative workforce.
Supporting Investments in Sustainable Start-ups and Innovative Ideas
ASE has embarked on a journey to research, evaluate and invest in sustainable businesses that are pioneering solutions that brings about positive impacts to society and the environment. While many of these investments may not have an immediate or short-term correlation with our core business, our vision extends beyond this. ASE is driven by the desire to foster innovation and growth, that will spur economic expansion and creation of job opportunities. All in all, our goal is to establish new benchmarks for corporate enterprises to create positive change by going above and beyond.
